Jimmy Bangura, widely known as Jimmy B, is an iconic Sierra Leonean musician, producer, actor, and filmmaker. Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, he is celebrated as the "Godfather of Sierra Leone music" for his pivotal role in modernizing the nation's entertainment industry.
His artistic path began internationally, featuring in the 1988 film Coming to America. Jimmy B later moved to South Africa, where he established a recording studio and signed with EMI South Africa. Blending hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and Afro-pop, he gained widespread acclaim with tracks like "Be With Me Father," "Def Jam," and his signature festive project Beautiful December. His discography features projects such as “My Story (1994),” Make 'Em Bounce (1998), “Raise 'Em Up (2001),” “Just the Way I Feel,” and his collaborative release “Still Dreaming, Vol. 1.”
Following the civil war in Sierra Leone, Jimmy B returned home to spearhead the country's cultural revival. Through Paradise Studio, he mentored emerging talent and produced community-focused music like the 2014 awareness single "Ebola 4 Go." Beyond his music catalog, which features tracks such as "U R Beautiful," "Khadija," and "Awesome God," Jimmy B hosted The Jimmy B Show on AiRadio and directed notable films like Paradise Island (2009) and Guardian of the Throne (2014), cementing his status as a West African cultural legend.
